National Authors Day – A Few of My Favourite Authors

November 2, 2021 by kayla No Comments
Writing with coffee and laptop for National Authors Day

Today is National Authors Day and I’m really excited to talk about some of my favourite authors. Most of these are from the last year or so and others I have been following for some time.

Kelley Armstrong

Kelley Armstrong has had me sucked in from the very first of her Otherworld series. This series is a world where each book is a ‘standalone’ for different characters within the world but they all intersect within each other. You get a sense of each character’s background and abilities for how they navigate in their role of the Otherworld. The first novel in the ‘series’ is Bitten.

Armstrong writes middle school, young adult, and adult novels from mystery, fantasy to thriller. She has a great pace for her novels, they never feel too slow, and you get just the right amount of description that you don’t feel you are being oversaturated with words. She is always my go-to author and I read everything that she puts out. Armstrong is definitely one of my absolute favourites for this National Authors Day list.

Colleen Hoover

I found Colleen Hoover in March of 2020 when the world was on lockdown. I flew through every single book she wrote in a matter of a few weeks. Her writing is simple, but she gets you in her clutches real easily with the way she spins her words with romance novels and heart-wrenching storylines.

Before I started reading Hoover, I wouldn’t have said I was much of a romance novel reader. She changed the game for me a little bit in that I genuinely enjoyed reading these novels and wanted more. It helped me break down that barrier of “ew romance” I used to have. I just hadn’t found the right romance novel before reading her books. She has become more insta famous as of late too, getting even more recognition.

Sarah J. Maas

I’m sorry to the haters, but not sorry for those who absolutely love her novels either.

I refused to read A Throne of Glass or A Court of Thorn and Roses (ACOTAR) for so long. It wasn’t until about June of last year that I accepted a recommendation from my friend’s girlfriend that I gave these a try. To be honest, I judged the book by its cover. I love a good cover and if it really wasn’t designed to my liking and very sci-fi looking, I didn’t bother.

To say I devoured A Throne of Glass and then ACOTAR would be an understatement. I had/still have the worst book hangovers from these worlds and novels still to this day. I have probably re-read each series 3 times in the last 18 months. These two series really helped to kickstart my love for fantasy novels again and are the main reason for this blog.

Kristin Hannah

Kristin Hannah is another romance novel writer who I got into from another friend’s recommendation for The Nightingale. I quickly read everything else shortly after. Can you sense a theme here? If I read one novel by an author, I will quickly latch on and devour everything by them.

While Hannah is too descriptive for me at times, I really love the way she writes her characters. I can feel the eras she writes in so fluidly. She tends to jump back and forth between past and present in her novels, but she does it very well.

I was disappointed with her recently release, The Four Winds, but all of her other novels are really great.

What are some of your favourite authors? Are there any I should check out and add to my list? I always want new recommendations!

Welcome!

October 27, 2021 by kayla No Comments

Hi everyone!

Welcome to caffeinated reads. I’m hoping to make this a space where you’ll get the quick and dirty book reviews for when you’re in a book slump or hangover and don’t know what to read next.

These past two years I’ve really started reading a lot again. It’s been a great escape from the world’s crap.

After getting into ACOTAR, I had a really hard time getting sucked back into new novels and I could never find a resource of what I was currently into for a next read or binge. This is where this blog comes in.

Currently, I’m into fantasy with some spice in the young adult/new adult category. I do read a lot of different genres though.

If you have any recommendations or would like me to do a review of a certain novel, please let me know!

These are just a few of my favourite (some in the last year or so) authors. ⁣
⁣
These authors know how to draw me right into a world or story. I am so locked in I would skip absolutely anything to just read and get lost in the writing. ⁣
⁣
That is what makes books so special to me. You can feel the world, the magic, the wind on the trees all within the written pages. You are transported to another place, time, reality, a world that you wish you could be a part of.⁣
⁣
So these are just a few of my favourite authors. My link in my bio has a lengthier post with some of my favourites. ⁣
⁣
Please let me know what yours are so I can check them out and find some new ones as well!⁣

Welcome to my little slice of the gram. ⁣

This little bundle of love was born out of a need to find new reads after many book hangovers the past (almost) two years. ⁣
⁣
I keep scouring through TikTok and on Instagram for different recommendation to have a ton DNF on my list or ones that did not measure up to the books I just finished. ⁣
⁣
I hope to give everyone great recommendations to help you decide if a book is for you! ⁣
